The environment is also one of our concerns. It is well known that in recent years, problems related to environmental impacts have been raised with increasing urgency. These problems pose such threats that environmental protection has now become a priority in economic policies aimed at achieving sustainable development.

Carldora is aware that companies have responsibilities both in creating wealth and protecting the environment. It therefore adopts environmental management practices that give them a clear understanding of the impacts caused, as well as providing technical, human and financial resources to ensure that these impacts are minimised and controlled.

Carldora, under the Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control (IPPC) regime, which is part of the Industrial Emissions Regime (REI) – Decree-Law No. 127/2013 of 30 August, has a valid Environmental Licence No. 268_2009, provided for in the company's environmental management system, associated with the surface treatment of metals using electrolytic and chemical processes, which is carried out at its manufacturing facilities.

Carldora's Integrated Management System (IMS) is certified to NP EN ISO 14001 (certified by SGS no. PT 18/06623), which provides a set of methodologies that enhance environmental management, coordinating a process of identifying environmental aspects and determining their impacts.

The parameters of operations associated with significant environmental aspects are monitored and measured, and information on these parameters is essential to determine how they should be managed in order to achieve objectives and improve environmental performance.

Accordingly, our company is committed to using the best techniques for the aforementioned processes, including all necessary measures to ensure the protection of air, water, and soil, and to prevent or reduce noise pollution and waste production, with the aim of achieving a high level of protection for the environment as a whole.

Among the environmental protection activities, the following stand out:

Control of consumption of raw materials, subsidiary materials and water (industrial process and human consumption)

Calculation of the minimum raw materials needed to maintain the required quality level for baths in the galvanising line;

Determination of the quality of baths and washing water from the zinc plating line vats;

Use of an appropriate equipment prevention plan to ensure the most expeditious detection and repair of water leaks in industrial processes and human consumption;

Raising awareness of the need to consume as little water as possible in bathing areas and drinking fountains.

Control of energy consumption (electricity and other fuels)

Use of an appropriate prevention plan for equipment and infrastructure;

Raising awareness among our employees about reducing energy consumption.

Control of emissions into the air

Monitoring of point emissions into the atmosphere from the galvanising line burner, as well as diffuse emissions from the baths of that line;

Monitoring of point emissions into the atmosphere from the paint booth burner and the gas extraction system inside it;

Capture and treatment of diffuse emissions from welding and deburring processes;

Control of industrial waste water discharge

Laboratory analyses of discharged wastewater that has been treated by our ETARI.

Control of waste produced

Raising awareness among our employees about the different types of waste;

Segregation of the different types of waste produced at various stages of the manufacturing process and forwarding them to licensed waste operators.

Noise control

Assessment and Monitoring of Environmental Noise (Nuisance Criteria and Exposure Limit Values);

Use of methods to contain noisy industrial activity, namely through the use of gates to ensure acoustic insulation to the outside of the factory building, as well as the use of reflective surface coatings in work areas outside the building that are considered most critical in terms of disturbance to our neighbours.
